Archives For skincare

When it comes to skincare, I rarely change how I do it, but I like switching out the products and trying new brands or items from brands I already know. I have been using the same products for a long time so I thought it was time to switch things out and try some new things out. Here’s what I got and my first impressions of them.

♥ Simple – Kind To Skin Micellar Cleansing Water

This is a micellar water cleanser, and I love to use these. I have been using one from Garnier but I felt like it was time for something new. The major difference for me was that this one actually had a scent, compared to the Garnier one which was practically unscented. It’s not terrible though, and it does make my skin feel just as cleansed and nice as the other one did. So I’ll give it a 9/10.

♥ Nivea – Soothing Toner For Dry Skin

This one was a bit weird! It totally smells like the Nivea body lotion I used before so it was odd to have that scent for a toner. It is soothing though, and my skin feels a bit more hydrated and not as tight after using it so it works well enough. I used to use a tea tree toner water so having something that isn’t actively combatting breakouts and spots feels a bit weird but so far I haven’t noticed any changes in my skin. I’ll give this a 8/10.

♥ L’Oreal – Hydra Genius Aloe Water

This is a slightly weird one! It’s not a water, it’s not a cream and it is not a gel. I guess it’s like those water creams you hear about in k-beauty, but it is a nice texture. It feels slightly cooling on the skin and it does make my skin feel really hydrated, so I like it a lot! It is light weight and it works nicely under make up as long as you give it a few minutes to dry first, of course. I’ll give this a 9/10.

♥ Korres – Wild Rose Sleeping Facial Night Cream

This is a very floral scented night cream. I’m not sure what I expected from the scent wild rose but I didn’t expect it to be so potent. It’s not terrible though, it’s just a bit stronger than what I am used to. It is a fairly thick night cream so I only use a little bit at a time to avoid my skin from feeling too greasy the morning after. It works pretty well! I’ll give this one a 8/10.

♥ Dove – Nutrium Moisture Shower Cream Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena Scent

I adore Dove shower creams and milks and this is no exception! It smells so sweet and fresh at the same time and it is very hydrating and soothing to use in the shower. The scent lingers for a while too so that is a plus! I think all Dove shower creams would get an automatic 10/10 from me, I haven’t encountered any bad ones yet.

I also received a sample with my order, which was for the First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser. I haven’t tried this yet since I am still getting used to the new products I’m using now, but I am very excited to give it a go after a while.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think about them?

It always feels weird to make wishlists based on the season of the year, but some products just sound more tempting and more useful in the summer. Cooling products, for example, are great to use during the summer and I would definitely never use them during winter because it’s cold enough here already. I always feel like using lip products and brighter colors in the summer too, I suppose that is a norm for most people. But for me who usually only wear black and don’t care much for daily make up, it is strange indeed! I have incorporated more pink and blue into both my wardrobe and my make up and there’s a few more things I would love to purchase before summer is over. If I can ever convince myself to do so is a different story, but a girl can always dream! Is there anything you want for the summer? Here’s my somewhat short beauty wishlist at least!

  • Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipsticks in Dark Wine & Dark Pink Frost

  • NYX Liquid Crystal Liner Jade & Wet n Wild Megaslicks Lip Gloss Strawberry Ice

  • Max Factor Wild Shadow Pots Turqoise Fury & Brazen Charcoal

  • Nip+Fab Dragons Blood Fix Pads & Skinlite Cooling Cucumber Pads

I’m sure we all have those days where all we want is to get rid of our make up and go straight to bed. Or maybe we want to stay in bed in the morning instead of going to the bathroom to wash our faces. The former happens a lot to me when I come home after a long day, so having products at hand that I can use without needing any water is great.

The first thing I do is to use the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. It is very convenient, it doesn’t have to be rinsed off and it removes make up like a dream while still being so gentle to sensitive skin. I just use it with a cotton pad, wipe off my make up and then go over again with a new cotton pad to properly cleanse the skin. Then I spray some of the Tea Tree Toner Water onto a cotton pad and use small circular movements as I apply it to the skin. Then I let it dry for a few minutes before moving onto the next steps.

After using the toner I move on to moisturizing the skin, and lately I have been loving the Figs & Rouge Hydra Activ Smart Nutrient Day Cream. Even if it is a day cream, I also use it at night because it has been so beneficial for my skin, giving it just enough moisture without making my skin feel greasy. It is great for using under powder make up too since it makes sure that you don’t have any dry patches the powder can adhere to. Under the eyes I use the oOlution Eye Love cream which hydrates, depuffs and tightens the under eye area. I love using it because it always makes me look so awake. It also works great under a concealer because it’s not too heavy so it just makes the area smooth and nice. Lastly I use Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Balm, this one is especially great to apply before bed because it is a thick formula that takes some time to absorb. I always wake up with soft lips after using it and I love it. It also has SPF in it so its great to use during the day too.

So that’s what I use when I don’t want to spend ages in the bathroom to get ready and just need a quick fix! What do you usually use?

The Mudmasky Facial Detox Purifying Recovery Mask was a product that i received in t
he Glossybox for February. As most people can tell from what I have posted during my time here at this blog is that I’m a sucker for face masks. To start with, I was only in love with sheet masks because they were so convenient, but I soon realized that mud masks and the like is great too when I want to do a proper pamper session.

I had never heard of Mudmasky prior to receiving it in the box, so I went on their website to check out what they’re all about and I was very impressed. They have an extensive ingredients list with pictures and everything so it is easy for someone to look it up on their own. If you click on any of the pictures on the website you get taken to a text page instead that explains every ingredient, from what they are to why they are used in the mask. I think it is very good for a company to be so open about what they put in their products, it ups their credibility a lot!

After doing the research I decided that it was finally time to actually try the mask. It has three different lengths of time that it recommends for you to use, based on your skin type. If you have dry skin they recommend using it for 7 minutes, if you have normal skin they recommend using it for 9 minutes, and if you have oily skin they recommend 11 minutes.  I have dry to normal skin so i compromised and used it for 8 minutes.

When applying it, the consistency is very much like other mud masks, however they say to only use a thin layer. This also makes the tube last way longer, which is a plus because it has a very high price point. (its 79 Euros on their web page, which is approximately $73 dollars). During the initial application the mask feels a bit cooling on the skin, but when it starts drying (after a minute or two) it goes over to a tingly sensation, and it becomes very very tight on the skin. I could barely move my mouth to speak and it was a tiny bit uncomfortable.

When it comes to removing the mask, the packaging says to remove it with cold water, which is probably to further help with minimizing pores. It was uncomfortable at first since my skin felt weird from all of the tingling, but i quickly got used to it. It was fairly easy to wash off and it did exfoliate the skin a tiny bit during the process. After letting my face air dry, my skin felt soft and refreshed and i could almost see that my pores had become smaller. I have used the mask a few more times after the initial application and i am still very impressed with the result! Even if it does show good results, i still think the price is a bit high, but my final verdict is that it is worth it, if you can get your hands on it for a fair price.

Have you tried this mask before? What are your thoughts?

♥ Silky Underwear

Silky Underwear from Lush is the first dusting powder i have tried in my life and i am honestly surprised that i have not even been remotely curious to try it before. The powder makes my skin feel silky smooth and it can be used as a deodorant, as a booster to help with the dreaded ‘chub rub’ in the summer, it can stop things from chafing and it can ‘dry’ out your hands if you need it to.

This product is honestly so versatile and i don’t really understand why i did not show any interest in it at first. The smell is lovely too, a nice and subtle jasmine scent that wont overpower any perfume you wear.

One thing to keep in mind while using it is that a little goes a long way. A month into using it i have maybe used one sixth of the bottle, and i have used it in many, many ways since i got it in the mail.

I would recommend this dusting powder to anyone who has been skeptical of trying it, it really is worth it, and the price is not bad at all when it lasts for so long.

Ingredients; Cornstarch, Kaolin, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Magnesium Carbonate, Perfume, Jasmine Absolute, Vetivert Oil, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Benzyl Cinnamate, Linalool.

♥ Fairy Dust

If you have a sweet tooth and love the snow fairy scent from Lush, you will probably love this too. Like other dusting powders, this makes your skin feel great and dry and it can help with chafing and the dreaded chub rub in the summer. However, i would not recommend using this as a deodorant powder, like i occasionally do with Silky Underwear if i’m not doing anything particular. The main reason for this is the amount of glitter in it and it can feel kind of abrasive on sensitive skin. But if you enjoy glittery armpits, go ahead and use it!

Fairy dust is great for the skin, great for sprinkling on your sheets before going to bed, and you’ll wake up with glitter everywhere. It’s quite charming, i must say. I also sometimes pour some onto my carpet and vacuum it up to make my room smell lovely. It’s a very versatile product and i’m sure you would love it if you’re into more ‘girly’ and sweet scents.

Ingredients; Cornflour, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Carbonate, Perfume, Synthetic Musk, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Tin Oxide, Citral, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Limonene, Snowflake Lustre, Fandango Lustre.

♥ First Snow

First snow is one of many dusting powders made by Lush, and it is not part of the regular range of products. I think it was first released with the Christmas range years ago. I purchased two bottles from two separate people in a Lush Facebook group because i was on a dusting powder spree and wanted to try them all. I do regret purchasing it now, i will probably never finish them so i would most likely pass them on to a friend.

When i first received them i was very excited. The silky underwear dusting powder has made such a big difference in my life so i was hoping this would  do the same. The powder is light and full of glitter and it looks great on the skin.

The thing i don’t like about it however is the smell. I have been on many a vacation to the canary islands and every time i’m there, the cleaning ladies at the hotel use a citrus scented chemical solution to clean the bathrooms. That is exactly what the dusting powder smells like to me, and I really cannot stand having it on my skin.

It is very festive and sparkly though, so if you can handle cleaning supply-scented stuff, you would probably love this. I will not ever purchase it again, but it is still a good product, i just wish it had a different scent.

Ingredients; Cornflour, Snowflake Lustre, Magnesium Carbonate, Talc, Geopearl crystal glittering rainbow, Perfume, Sweet Orange Oil, Cognac Oil, Lime Oil, Citral, Limonene, Citronellol, Linalool.

♥ Mr. Sandman

Mr Sandman is part of the Lush Christmas range. It is also part of the ever so popular Twilight scent family, and it smells wonderfully of lavender and chamomile. It is not an overpowering lavender scent like i can find other products to be though, in fact it is very pleasant!

Dusting powders are very versatile and i use them in many ways. I sprinkle some onto my mattress before putting on new sheets, i sprinkle some on the floor when i vacuum to use it as a room scent, i use it as dry shampoo if i’m in a pinch and i use it ‘normally’ by rubbing it into my skin whenever i need to freshen up a bit. The dusting powder absorbs oil and moisture and leaves your skin feeling really smooth and nice.

I think dusting powders are some my favorite products from Lush, both because they are so versatile and also because they last for a really long time. You don’t have to use much at a time so a bottle is almost guaranteed to last you for ages. The weight on the bottles might not seem like a lot but the powders get a bit compacted after a while and then you can just shake the bottle and it looks completely full again.

Another thing that is great about this dusting powder in particular is that it is great to use before bedtime, which you can kinda tell from the name. It doesn’t have an insane amount of glitter either so that is a bonus. I feel like using it before bedtime is like receiving a big, warm hug and it really helps me to fall asleep a bit more comfortably.

Ingredients; Tapiocha Starch, Magnesium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Chamomile Powder, Lavender Powder, Perfume, Lavender Oil, Benzoin Resinoid, Tonka Absolute, Ylang Ylang Oil, Sand, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Radiant Gold and Glamour Gold Lustre.
