Archives For Top 5

Just to make it equal, since last Friday was dedicated to female singers, I will dedicate this one to male singers! These can either be solo singers or bands with a male vocalist. The list will be in no particular order since it was hard enough to only pick five out of all the artists and bands I listen to.

  1. Highly Suspect – Johnny Stevens has one of the nicest voices I know of and they perform incredible songs on top of it all. The band has been active since 2009, but I only discovered them a few years ago. I’m really happy that I did though because their songs and their music videos are absolutely amazing. I don’t think I could ever praise them enough. My favorite song is called “Bath Salts”, but I thought I could share this song, since the music video is really nice!
  2. Hurts – I discovered them through the Deep Dark Indie playlist, like I did with many of the female artists on my other list. Hurts is a synth-pop duo from the UK and their vocalist is great. His voice reminds me of many others but it’s still different from the rest too.
  3. Jaymes Young – I used to be such a fan of his music, and suddenly my interest dropped a bit. But I still thing he has one of the most pleasant voices to listen to. I especially used to love his song “Moondust”, one which he also made an acoustic version of.
  4. I See Stars – I guess it’s no surprise anymore that i enjoy clean vocals, so this one is another great addition to the list. It’s not really a band I listen to regularly, but whenever I do I’m always blown away by the vocals.
  5. Blink 182 – Does anyone not like Tom Delonge’s vocals? I mean, I have loved his vocals ever since Blink first started making music and I don’t think I will ever stop! Even though they have had a lot of silly songs, his vocals are still good. Just going to share this song because I still listen to it every day. It also helps that the music video is stunning. I love all 1920-1930’s aesthetic.

What would your top 5 list look like?

I used to have a running top 5 series but I kind of fell out of it because it was so irregular, so I decided I could try to make it a weekly feature instead, trying to post it every Friday! This week, since a lot of blogs I follow do the whole “feminist friday” thing, I thought I could dedicate a post to the women that I listen to pretty much every day, in no really particular order.

  1. Sia – Sia has been with me since some time before Chandelier was released (I think I first heard her singing in David Guetta’s “Titanium”. I love everything she has ever released, and I think her “1000 Forms of fear” is one of my favorite albums of all time. I have never been able to find a live performance of one of my favorite songs, but I’ll share the original here.
  2. Meg Myers – I’m not quite sure how I discovered her, it might have been through the “Deep, Dark Indie” playlist on spotify (which is my absolute favorite btw) but I’m so glad I found her! Her music videos are so unique and I love her style of singing. She wrote on her instagram that she finds it funny that her songs are rather heavy and rock inspired, but she only listens to classical and world music herself. It just shows how diverse people can be. I had a hard time choosing just one song, this one is a bit raunchy, but also visually great.
  3. Neon Hitch – Many years ago, one of my gay, male friends sent me a link saying like “hey this girl is such a hot redhead, I think you’d like her!” I was really skeptical at first because his music taste is way different from mine, but i was very pleasantly surprised! My interested kind of faded over the years but recently I rediscovered her and listened to her new album and I’m in love again. Her album is really well put together and I don’t think I dislike a single song. Her voice is really unique too!
  4. Ruelle – This is another artist I must have discovered on the “Deep, Dark Indie” playlist. She has a lot of heavier, rock-ish songs and I truly enjoy them all. She is labelled as an electro-pop singer but I can’t say I have listened to any electro-pop from her yet.
  5. Baron Bane – This is not a solo singer, but it’s a swedish alternative band fronted by a woman. I also discovered them on the spotify playlist sometime last year when they released their newest album and I instantly fell in love. I’m really hoping they’ll release new songs this year too.

So that was my list! Do you have any female singers in your life that you adore?

What would be on your top 5 if you had to choose?

1. Piper Wright – Fallout 4

Piper is a News Journalist located in Diamond City in the Commonwealth. She runs Publick Occurences with her younger sister Nat, and is shunned by many in the city. I really enjoy the chemistry between her and my character, and i always find myself going back to Diamond City to find her and bring her along on my journey.
She also gives the player the perk Gift of Gab when you’re at the maximum relationship level with her. This perk allows you to earn double the amount of experience points when persuading people or discovering new places.

2. Dorian Pavus – Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dorian is a Tevinter mage and will give approval to the Inquisitor when they flirt with them regardless of gender. He is only romantically interested in males though, which kind of broke my heart because he’s such a witty and caring character. The group dynamic in the game just isn’t the same without him, but at least he is a great friend too even if I was not able to romance him.

3. Rex – Fallout: New Vegas

Part German Shepherd, Rex is a cyberhound Mk III law enforcement officer support model that has been around since pre-War times. He was born as a regular dog in 2072 and served in the Denver City Police Department. Sometime before the war, he was cybernetically enhanced and turned into a cyberdog – serial no. B955883, although the circumstances of his cybernetic alterations remain unknown. He survived the destruction of Denver and the harsh wastelands, at one point even fighting as part of Caesar’s Legion[1]. He later reached Freeside, where he came under the ownership of The King, who loves him dearly. Rex does not like rats, or hats, according to The King. The King says his dislike of hats may come from the fact that hat rhymes with rat.

4. Aranea Ienith – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Aranea Ienith is a Dunmer priestess of Azura, who protects the Shrine of Azura outside of Winterhold. She wears blue mage robes and boots. Opening the Daedric quest, “The Black Star,” Aranea becomes a possible follower if the Azura’s Star artifact is selected over the Black Star. As a follower, she typically wields magic and prefers her own robes over items placed in her inventory. Unable to be married, Aranea can be inducted into the Blades.

5. Zevran Arainai – Dragon Age: Origins

Zevran is an assassin hired by Teyrn Loghain and is told to kill your character in the game. He sets up a trap to lure you in but you have the opportunity to kill him if you win. I did that the first time i played the game, and when i read the wiki i realized i had missed out on a good companion. Zevran is not afraid of saying what he thinks and he is rather open about his background. I can’t really put my finger on what it is about him, but i can’t ever do a playthrough of the game without having him in my party.

If you play any games like these, who would be your favorite companions to bring along with you on your journey?

At the end of the year, Spotify provides you with a playlist that contains the songs that you streamed the most throughout the year, it’s really convenient! I looked through my list and decided to share the top 5 most played songs from my playlist. Feel free to share your own list below. What were your top 5 most played songs of the past year?

Sia – Cheap thrills

Stephen – Remembering myself

Sia – Move your body
