Archives For beauty blogger

Just to make it equal, since last Friday was dedicated to female singers, I will dedicate this one to male singers! These can either be solo singers or bands with a male vocalist. The list will be in no particular order since it was hard enough to only pick five out of all the artists and bands I listen to.

  1. Highly Suspect – Johnny Stevens has one of the nicest voices I know of and they perform incredible songs on top of it all. The band has been active since 2009, but I only discovered them a few years ago. I’m really happy that I did though because their songs and their music videos are absolutely amazing. I don’t think I could ever praise them enough. My favorite song is called “Bath Salts”, but I thought I could share this song, since the music video is really nice!
  2. Hurts – I discovered them through the Deep Dark Indie playlist, like I did with many of the female artists on my other list. Hurts is a synth-pop duo from the UK and their vocalist is great. His voice reminds me of many others but it’s still different from the rest too.
  3. Jaymes Young – I used to be such a fan of his music, and suddenly my interest dropped a bit. But I still thing he has one of the most pleasant voices to listen to. I especially used to love his song “Moondust”, one which he also made an acoustic version of.
  4. I See Stars – I guess it’s no surprise anymore that i enjoy clean vocals, so this one is another great addition to the list. It’s not really a band I listen to regularly, but whenever I do I’m always blown away by the vocals.
  5. Blink 182 – Does anyone not like Tom Delonge’s vocals? I mean, I have loved his vocals ever since Blink first started making music and I don’t think I will ever stop! Even though they have had a lot of silly songs, his vocals are still good. Just going to share this song because I still listen to it every day. It also helps that the music video is stunning. I love all 1920-1930’s aesthetic.

What would your top 5 list look like?

Following the beauty haul I did yesterday, plus saving other products to try them for a first impressions kind of post, I decided to fuse both into one. I have been really into blue shades lately, both in objects and in make up so after purchasing multiple blue items, I decided I wanted to test them out. I rarely go for a really bold eye look like this so I felt like I was kinda out of touch when doing it, it might look a bit sloppily done, honestly.

A darker blue in the crease, a bright blue on the lid, and a green-ish blue glitter liner.

I also used the glitter liner along the lower lash line but it smudged so easily.

20170607_182346

It looks a tiny bit metallic and I love it!

What I was most happy about is that the look kind of made my dull, grey eyes look a tiny bit blue too! They are always so flat and look kind of lifeless so that was cool, at least I have found somewhat of an alternative to circle lenses to alter my eye color. Also excuse the resting bitch face, it’s just my natural state.

♥ Here’s what I used

20170607_183625

  1. NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in “Jade” along the lash lines.
  2. A eye shadow packing brush for applying the darker blue shade in the crease. (nr 6.)
  3. A double ended angled brush for applying a darker eye shadow beneath the crystal liner to bring out the color.
  4. Technically an angled crease brush but it is great for blending. It’s from Eco Tools. The other brushes do not have a brand, it was a cheap set I bought on Wish.
  5. Nyx HD Banana Finishing Powder under the eyes and all over the face.
  6. Wet ‘n Wild Eye Shadow in “Lagoon”. Used in the crease.
  7. L’Oreal Color Riche Eye Color Pencil in “Ocean Blue”. Used all over the lid.

8. Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation Powder in Light Beige.
9. Lush Eyes Right Mascara.
10. Mesauda 4ever Brows in “Cinnamon”.
11. Maybelline The Rock NUDES. Only used the marked shade beneath the crystal liner.

♥ And here’s my first impressions! (only including the new items)

NYX Crystal Liner in “Jade”;

It’s a clear liquid with ocean green glitter, basically. I thought it would be a colored liner with glitter chunks but it was definitely not! It did look pretty over a black shadow though and the glitter reflected the light beautifully. I did notice after a while that it made my eyes feel a tiny bit itchy so it’s probably not that great for sensitive eyes like my own.

L’Oreal Color Riche Eye Color Pencil in “Ocean Blue”;

This was extremely pigmented! I only had to lightly rub it all over my lid because it’s very creamy and easy to apply and it gave such a vivid color payoff! It is a bit hard to remove since it sticks to your lids so much but that just ensures that it stays on the whole day. This is a great product and I’m curious about the other shades in the same line.

Wet ‘n Wild Eye Shadow in “Lagoon”;

As expected, this darker blue shadow was somewhat less pigmented than the L’Oreal pencil. It was great for using in the crease to create more depth though and it blended out well. I probably wouldn’t use it on its own since it doesn’t have quite the right shade of blue that I’m looking for but I will continue using it as a crease color.

Mesauda 4ever Brows in “Cinnamon”;

The color wasn’t as much of a mismatch as I thought it would be, but it was waaay too hard. It hurt a lot when trying to use it, and at one time the tip of it broke off, something that sucks since it’s a micro pencil and they don’t come with too much product in the first place. I’m not sure if I would continue using this.

So that was it! Have you ever rocked blue eye shadow or any other bold colors?

I don’t purchase palettes very often but when I do I either absolutely love them, or I feel kind of “meh” about them. This is sadly the latter, though I did love the original NUDES palette, and the Blushed NUDES that Maybelline released prior to this one. They now have a 24k palette too but I haven’t been wanting to invest in it after being disappointed by this one.

At first glance, I’m really excited to see both a blue shade and a gold shade, but as I’m wary of those shades from previous experiences, I was not expecting too much. I think it was my low expectations that kind of made this just a “meh” instead of “hate it” because the shades don’t transfer well to the lids at all. I tried using a packing brush while it was dry, while it was wet, with some fixing spray and I even tried with a sponge applicator because apparently they transfer more pigment but there still wasn’t much showing up. You can also see how chalky the whole palette is. Just look at the mess I left behind after I finished doing the swatches! I had to use a q-tip to clean it off between the pans because I can’t stand messy things at all, plus having the lighter shades contaminated by the darker shades is not something I would want to happen.

Look at that mess!

In the swatches below you can see that the blue shade and the gold shade don’t really keep their shades at all. The blue one looks more dark grey and the gold one just looks flat and not metallic at all. The lighter shades and the purple shade looks great though! They also transferred well and actually showed up on the lid. The two black ones, one glittery and one matte did not perform well and they were very patchy. There was also a ton of glitter fallout that I didn’t enjoy. I looked at the Maybelline website to see how they used the colors, and they showed an eye look with the blue shade that was very metallic and impressive, but they must have mixed it with an eye gloss because it does not look like that whatsoever.

So all in all, I was very disappointed with this palette, which sucks because Maybelline is the most accessible brand for me and I have loved the previous palettes so much. Maybelline is the only brand who has a display at my local grocery store so I always see news from them first. I’m hesitant to try any newer palettes and shadows from them now because it kind of feels like they have changed the formula and it sucks because it was great before. It is very affordable though, retailing for $11.99 on their web site but would it be worth it when the palette is bad to begin with? I don’t really think so.

Have you tried Maybelline’s NUDES palettes before? What do you think of them?

Goodreads

June 1, 2017 — 8 Comments

Have you heard of Goodreads before? It’s a website for you to track books you read, connect with other book lovers, enter giveaways for new books, discover new reads and pretty much everything else you would want to do with books. I have had an active profile there since January and it has been a good experience overall. I only have one friend added so far, which is Lisa, but she posts updates so frequently so it feels like way more, heh. If you use goodreads and you would like to connect with me on there, follow this link to go to my profile page, or just search for my name that is displayed in the picture below.

On the Goodreads profile page it lets you add in a lot of information, like favorite authors, books you already have read, books you are reading (including how many pages you have read) and books you want to read. It is a really neat system to keep track of your literary endeavors. They also have an app where you actually can scan the cover art of the book you’re reading to add it to your ‘currently reading’ section.

goodreads profile

A fun feature is the reading challenge! You can choose how many books you would like to read before the end of the year and it will let you know how well you are doing. I was behind by one book for a while but I caught up in April. My goal is to read 10 books, I would have chosen more but all of the unread books I have now are quite lengthy and I don’t want to force myself to read faster because I enjoy taking my time with books, reading them when I know I really want to.

reading challenge

Another great feature is the Giveaways section! Here you can find books that are both signed and unsigned that are given away by the authors themselves. I have yet to win a giveaway but I always enter them for books that I find to be interesting. You have the option to add them to a ‘to read’ shelf so you can find the books later if you want to purchase them yourself. I don’t know of any other sites providing the same options as this so for me this is great and quite unique.

giveaway

So, that was all I had for Goodreads! This post is not sponsored in any way, I just wanted to share a site that i use frequently and I would definitely not mind if more people started using it too!

Thank you so much to Rei for nominating me for this! The last time I was nominated was in May, which was quite some time ago! I always struggle with these kinds of posts though, because I never find facts about myself to be interesting enough to post! But I will try my best!

Rules :

You have to thank the person who nominated you for this award and provide a link to their blog.

Link the nominees and inform them about their nomination.

Nominate at least 15 bloggers of your choice

Share 7 facts about yourself.

7 facts about me:

  1. I am currently obsessed with ASMR videos! There is just something about them that gives me the greatest tingly feeling and they are so incredibly relaxing! This is my current favorite of the bunch:
  2. I am really introverted and I struggle a lot with social anxiety, so I spend most of my free time outside of work by myself. But sometimes I just force myself to go into town, to visit the mall, just to socialize with people.
  3. I am a very light sleeper! The smallest sound could wake me up, which is why i prefer living away from the city, out in the countryside where it’s more quiet. When i lived in the city, seagulls woke me up at 5 AM every morning and I absolutely hated it!
  4. At the age of 25 and a half, I still have no idea what I want to do in life! I feel like it’s too late to decide and that I should just find a mediocre job to settle in to, but I don’t want to do that at all.
  5. I love reading, drawing, painting and so on, but I always forget to purchase craft supplies so I rarely get to unleash my creativity.
  6. Even if Norwegian is my first language, I always prefer to speak English instead. I don’t know why I am like that but I feel way more comfortable using a different language than my own.
  7. Over the years I have kind of lost my love for gaming a little bit, but I do have these regular cycles where I play a lot, then not so much, then back to playing a lot again. But I did lose the passion for most of my hobbies when my ex and I went separate ways a year ago.
