A new garden plot

June 16, 2017 — 9 Comments

Like ten years ago, my mother used to have flower beds pretty much everywhere in our small garden, but she eventually just stopped tending to them and let nature take over. The stones around it broke down, the shrubbery grew as tall as our fence and it didn’t look good at all. So one day I told her that she couldn’t just let her garden grow out of control and I helped her getting rid of the weeds and other plants that had taken over. Since the stone edges she used were broken, I had to improvise and found some treated planks that I could use as a border instead. I went to a garden center place to purchase some new plants for her, some nutrient treated soil and compost and helped her put it all together.

As one of my succulents had gotten too big to fit in a pot that could be in my window sill, I decided to donate it to the garden, letting it have a home in the corner. Hopefully the rain won’t drown it.. I’m really happy with the result though! That spot looked like a total mess and we spent around three hours picking weeds and digging up the dirt to make it good enough for a flower bed. All I have to do now is to make the plank border look a bit better, maybe nail together the corners and find a longer plank so it wont be separated like how it is now.  It’s nice to see how different it can become with just a few hours of work though, I just wish I had taken a photo before so you could see just how bad it was.

I feel like an old woman whenever I talk about gardening, but I guess that’s just how it is, I’m from the countryside after all so it’s probably in my blood, or something like that. Do you enjoy gardening? I really want to get myself a small vegetable garden but I don’t think I could while still having my cats because they eat just about anything..

So lately there has been an influx of vegetarian and vegan products in the grocery stores here, something I’m happy about! There is a lot of vegan products that I can’t use because I’m allergic to Soy products, but recently there has been a lot of new products based on pea protein and other things that are completely soy free. A store chain here in Norway called Coop has released a whole lot of different things like beet burgers, mushroom burgers, corn sliders and what I had for dinner the other day, seasoned taco stuffing made from pea protein. They also have campaigns for meat free Mondays where they share recipes you could try and I really love this change. I’m not fully vegan but I go meat free as often as I can, gradually cutting down on my consumption when I find replacements that are soy free.

Here’s what I had, it totally looks meat, doesn’t it? My dad thought it was, stole a few pieces from the leftovers I brought them and was weirded out by the texture. It does taste great though and it worked well with tortillas, vegan cheese and iceberg lettuce. I usually have a lot more mixed in with my tacos but I couldn’t be bothered to go to the store to buy even more. Sometimes simple meals are the best meals. Do you ever choose vegan options over regular options? If you don’t then you should try it! You’ll feel better about choosing a more healthy lifestyle, just make sure to do it right.

“Soy free” “0% meat or fish” “A source of protein, gluten free, sustainable”

All you gotta do is fry it in some oil or butter for a few minutes.

I don’t purchase palettes very often but when I do I either absolutely love them, or I feel kind of “meh” about them. This is sadly the latter, though I did love the original NUDES palette, and the Blushed NUDES that Maybelline released prior to this one. They now have a 24k palette too but I haven’t been wanting to invest in it after being disappointed by this one.

At first glance, I’m really excited to see both a blue shade and a gold shade, but as I’m wary of those shades from previous experiences, I was not expecting too much. I think it was my low expectations that kind of made this just a “meh” instead of “hate it” because the shades don’t transfer well to the lids at all. I tried using a packing brush while it was dry, while it was wet, with some fixing spray and I even tried with a sponge applicator because apparently they transfer more pigment but there still wasn’t much showing up. You can also see how chalky the whole palette is. Just look at the mess I left behind after I finished doing the swatches! I had to use a q-tip to clean it off between the pans because I can’t stand messy things at all, plus having the lighter shades contaminated by the darker shades is not something I would want to happen.

Look at that mess!

In the swatches below you can see that the blue shade and the gold shade don’t really keep their shades at all. The blue one looks more dark grey and the gold one just looks flat and not metallic at all. The lighter shades and the purple shade looks great though! They also transferred well and actually showed up on the lid. The two black ones, one glittery and one matte did not perform well and they were very patchy. There was also a ton of glitter fallout that I didn’t enjoy. I looked at the Maybelline website to see how they used the colors, and they showed an eye look with the blue shade that was very metallic and impressive, but they must have mixed it with an eye gloss because it does not look like that whatsoever.

So all in all, I was very disappointed with this palette, which sucks because Maybelline is the most accessible brand for me and I have loved the previous palettes so much. Maybelline is the only brand who has a display at my local grocery store so I always see news from them first. I’m hesitant to try any newer palettes and shadows from them now because it kind of feels like they have changed the formula and it sucks because it was great before. It is very affordable though, retailing for $11.99 on their web site but would it be worth it when the palette is bad to begin with? I don’t really think so.

Have you tried Maybelline’s NUDES palettes before? What do you think of them?

1. Super Soccer Noggins

Super Soccer Noggins is supposedly a Christmas flash game, but to be honest, I don’t think that it has nothing to do with Christmas, at all! Santa has a small cameo in the beginning of the round where he drops the ball down so you can start playing, but the game is really just a silly ball kicking simulator.

As you can see in the screenshot below, there is not a lot that reminds you of Christmas once you get past the menu screen. You choose your team (In reality just one dude) and off you go to kick a tiny ball around with them. You don’t even get anything remotely reminiscent of Christmas when you win either, only some gold to upgrade your little dude! Maybe i should rename this list “Barely Christmas-y games”.

2. Pimp My Sleigh

Pimp My Sleigh is another take on the typical Pimp My Ride type of games. You just customize your vehicle and that is pretty much it! It is a bit more festive since it actually contains Santa’s sleigh, though it would be cooler if you could customize his reindeer too!

One thing that really peeved me about this game was that absolutely none of the red parts matched! Why would you make the parts four different shades of red? Do you not consider the fact that some people want a sleek, polished look on their sleigh? Preposterous!

3. A blocky Christmas

A blocky Christmas is a game where you move a block down to a designated area. That is pretty much the entirety of the game. The levels differ slightly by adding in a longer block that you need to attach yourself to and navigate around, but it is not very challenging, nor very festive. Sure, the board is shaped vaguely like a Christmas tree but that is pretty much it! This seems to be a common theme with flash games; put Christmas in the title and any idiot will play it during the holidays. (Ouch)

4. Santa Dental Care

Santa Dental Care is one of very many dental care games out there. I have no idea why it is so popular to make these, they are very nightmare inducing. There are dental care games for Shrek, for Elsa from Frozen, for pretty much every other fictional character out there, and now for Santa. First off, do you see how creepy the introductory message is?

Because he’s kissing so many children

Why would he kiss children? How hard does he kiss them to get candy stuck in his teeth and having them fall out?

If i wasn’t scared of the dentist before, i sure am now! You use tongs to literally pull his gray teeth out, because they so rotten that he can’t keep them. You use some magical powder to fill in his cavities. You use a drill to expose his cavities even more. I shudder just at the thought of it. Would you enjoy a game like this?

5. Christmas Pop

Christmas Pop is honestly the most festive game out of all of these. It is a Tetris kind of game so expecting a gameplay like that wouldn’t be far off at all. You get clusters of three baubles at a time, rotating and navigation them into a spot that seems good. Once you place them, some of them slide downwards to fill up any space below them so you could like place one on a ledge and let the others slip off. Once you get five-ish baubles of the same color, they disappear. It’s definitely the best game out of all that is on this list, so if you’re going to try any of these, try this one.

Disclaimer; Norway’s Glossybox might differ a bit from, for example, the american ones. We are very particular about products and everything apparently needs to be made for Nordic hair and skin and whatnot. Luckily we get products to try that we don’t necessarily see in stores here all the time. I’ve heard about a couple of the brands, mainly from watching other Glossybox unboxing videos. I also pay for the boxes out of my own pocket, so this post is not sponsored in any way.

Decembers theme is The Pink Diamond Box, and it is really, really pretty! It also came in a pink outer casing so that was cool. They write on the card that it is made to empower and celebrate all of the strong individuals who make Glossybox possible.

♥ HOLLISTER – Wave For Her

This is a perfume sample, also the first one i have gotten in any box. I’m slightly allergic to perfume and i can’t really use anything but body mists so i will not be using this one. It smells a bit floral and nice though. I’d see this as a summer scent rather than a winter scent.

Not adding in any value here since perfume samples are free 90% of the time.

♥ NAILBUDDYS – Nail Polish Silver

This is a pretty silver glittery nail polish. It is not full sized, but rather a travel sized so it’s perfect to bring with you in your bag. I really like the color, it matches most of my choker necklaces.

This is a travel size, the original is worth 90 NOK / ~$10.

♥ HAIRON – De-Tangling Brush

This is an egg shaped brush that is said to fit perfectly in your hand and that will de-tangle your hair without causing any strain on it. I rarely believe in everything that these brushes promise, I’m curious to see what it does though.

This is a full sized product and it is worth 80 NOK / ~$9.

♥ GARNIER – Moistube Bomb Tissue Mask

Tissue, or sheet masks as they are also called, are super popular but most of them are from various Asian brands. It’s exciting to finally get to try a more ‘local’ one.

This is a full sized product and it is worth 29 NOK / ~$3

♥ MDMFLOW – Semi Matte Lipstick ‘Bossy’

This is as it says, a semi matte, creamy lipstick. It comes in a brown nude color and i think it looks really nice. Most of the nude lipsticks i have are rather orange so having a more neutral color is nice.

This is a full sized product and it is worth 199 NOK / ~$23

I think this box has had the lowest value so far, but i do like the products i received so i cannot really complain. It just kind of sucks that a perfume sample counts as a whole item and not as a bonus. The total value, if the nail polish was full sized, would have been 398 NOK / ~$45, which is about twice the value of the box price. So it’s not bad, just a lower value than other months!

Do you subscribe to any boxes?
