My favorite thing to do is to try out weird or bold eye looks, and when I just so happen to find a ‘new’ palette to play with, plus some other colors on the side, I won’t say no. I have spent many hours of my life playing with make up, creating strange eye looks and just wiping it off soon after if I’m not happy with it. A few years ago I used to have a gold and green duo shadow from H&M that I absolutely loved, and the green shade was so dark and suit my eyes so well but I have never found any shades to recreate it ever since, until now. Well, it’s not an exact duplicate of it, but it is close enough!

A bit chunky, but still a good gold shade.

The purple look

First I wanted to just see how crazy I could get with the colors, having purple and gold as my other favorite gold combo, i decided to try to make a look from it too. For some reason gold and purple makes me think of the fictional nation of Orlais, from the Dragon Age universe. Their style is really posh and over the top and that is how the gold/purple combo is making me feel. I first tried to use the purple shade that came with the palette but it just showed up slightly brown, so i guess its taupe? Instead I ended up using a purple eye shadow from H&M that was on sale for 10 NOK (around a dollar). I used a wet brush and it showed up pretty good! It took a few layers to make it as intense as I wanted but it layered well so that was no problem. The gold shade from the palette didn’t layer as well though, Maybelline is pretty notorious for having chalky eye shadows and this was no exception. It gave it some texture, not necessarily what I like in an eye shadow, but at least it had somewhat of a metallic shimmer.

I focused on making the outer edge more opaque so it looks a tiny bit patch in the crease in the picture below, but it wasn’t noticeable when i had my eyes open so I didn’t really care. I also noticed it’s pretty easy to see that my hair is two different colors now too, I’m growing out the black color so almost half of my hair is a lighter brown color now. All in all I’m pretty happy with how the eye look turned out. Maybe I could have smoked out/blended the edges better but it doesn’t really matter to me if it has a harsh edge.

The green look

As for the green look, I took a lighter metallic ish shade and layered on top of the gold to mute it a bit, then using a mix of the green shade in the Maybelline palette and a green H&M shade. I was a little bit disappointed since the green shade in the palette wasn’t as pigmented, but I’m sure they were going for a more subtle shade, letting the gold dominate the whole palette. The H&M shade was a whole lot brighter but more sheer so it didn’t do much apart from adding a slight sheen on top of it all. Doing dual colors like this was my favorite thing to do in high school, and I rarely went a day without it in some kind of variety. This look isn’t bold compared to the other so it was way easier to wear it casually, and it still is to this day.

Being able to find something similar to what I used before has rekindled my love for make up a little bit, and I feel myself wanting to sit down in front of the mirror and play with the colors. Maybe I can end up with a blue and purple eye look too, or blue and gold.. or.. well, time will show! For now I’m just going to replicate this look over and over until i tire from it completely.

Do you have a go-to look? Or did you use to have one that you would love to recreate? Tell me all about it!

Following the beauty haul I did yesterday, plus saving other products to try them for a first impressions kind of post, I decided to fuse both into one. I have been really into blue shades lately, both in objects and in make up so after purchasing multiple blue items, I decided I wanted to test them out. I rarely go for a really bold eye look like this so I felt like I was kinda out of touch when doing it, it might look a bit sloppily done, honestly.

A darker blue in the crease, a bright blue on the lid, and a green-ish blue glitter liner.

20170607_182322

I also used the glitter liner along the lower lash line but it smudged so easily.

20170607_182346

It looks a tiny bit metallic and I love it!

What I was most happy about is that the look kind of made my dull, grey eyes look a tiny bit blue too! They are always so flat and look kind of lifeless so that was cool, at least I have found somewhat of an alternative to circle lenses to alter my eye color. Also excuse the resting bitch face, it’s just my natural state.

♥ Here’s what I used

20170607_183625

  1. NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in “Jade” along the lash lines.
  2. A eye shadow packing brush for applying the darker blue shade in the crease. (nr 6.)
  3. A double ended angled brush for applying a darker eye shadow beneath the crystal liner to bring out the color.
  4. Technically an angled crease brush but it is great for blending. It’s from Eco Tools. The other brushes do not have a brand, it was a cheap set I bought on Wish.
  5. Nyx HD Banana Finishing Powder under the eyes and all over the face.
  6. Wet ‘n Wild Eye Shadow in “Lagoon”. Used in the crease.
  7. L’Oreal Color Riche Eye Color Pencil in “Ocean Blue”. Used all over the lid.

20170607_183633

8. Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation Powder in Light Beige.
9. Lush Eyes Right Mascara.
10. Mesauda 4ever Brows in “Cinnamon”.
11. Maybelline The Rock NUDES. Only used the marked shade beneath the crystal liner.

♥ And here’s my first impressions! (only including the new items)

NYX Crystal Liner in “Jade”;

It’s a clear liquid with ocean green glitter, basically. I thought it would be a colored liner with glitter chunks but it was definitely not! It did look pretty over a black shadow though and the glitter reflected the light beautifully. I did notice after a while that it made my eyes feel a tiny bit itchy so it’s probably not that great for sensitive eyes like my own.

L’Oreal Color Riche Eye Color Pencil in “Ocean Blue”;

This was extremely pigmented! I only had to lightly rub it all over my lid because it’s very creamy and easy to apply and it gave such a vivid color payoff! It is a bit hard to remove since it sticks to your lids so much but that just ensures that it stays on the whole day. This is a great product and I’m curious about the other shades in the same line.

Wet ‘n Wild Eye Shadow in “Lagoon”;

As expected, this darker blue shadow was somewhat less pigmented than the L’Oreal pencil. It was great for using in the crease to create more depth though and it blended out well. I probably wouldn’t use it on its own since it doesn’t have quite the right shade of blue that I’m looking for but I will continue using it as a crease color.

Mesauda 4ever Brows in “Cinnamon”;

The color wasn’t as much of a mismatch as I thought it would be, but it was waaay too hard. It hurt a lot when trying to use it, and at one time the tip of it broke off, something that sucks since it’s a micro pencil and they don’t come with too much product in the first place. I’m not sure if I would continue using this.

So that was it! Have you ever rocked blue eye shadow or any other bold colors?

I don’t purchase palettes very often but when I do I either absolutely love them, or I feel kind of “meh” about them. This is sadly the latter, though I did love the original NUDES palette, and the Blushed NUDES that Maybelline released prior to this one. They now have a 24k palette too but I haven’t been wanting to invest in it after being disappointed by this one.

At first glance, I’m really excited to see both a blue shade and a gold shade, but as I’m wary of those shades from previous experiences, I was not expecting too much. I think it was my low expectations that kind of made this just a “meh” instead of “hate it” because the shades don’t transfer well to the lids at all. I tried using a packing brush while it was dry, while it was wet, with some fixing spray and I even tried with a sponge applicator because apparently they transfer more pigment but there still wasn’t much showing up. You can also see how chalky the whole palette is. Just look at the mess I left behind after I finished doing the swatches! I had to use a q-tip to clean it off between the pans because I can’t stand messy things at all, plus having the lighter shades contaminated by the darker shades is not something I would want to happen.

20170522_194044

Look at that mess!

In the swatches below you can see that the blue shade and the gold shade don’t really keep their shades at all. The blue one looks more dark grey and the gold one just looks flat and not metallic at all. The lighter shades and the purple shade looks great though! They also transferred well and actually showed up on the lid. The two black ones, one glittery and one matte did not perform well and they were very patchy. There was also a ton of glitter fallout that I didn’t enjoy. I looked at the Maybelline website to see how they used the colors, and they showed an eye look with the blue shade that was very metallic and impressive, but they must have mixed it with an eye gloss because it does not look like that whatsoever.

So all in all, I was very disappointed with this palette, which sucks because Maybelline is the most accessible brand for me and I have loved the previous palettes so much. Maybelline is the only brand who has a display at my local grocery store so I always see news from them first. I’m hesitant to try any newer palettes and shadows from them now because it kind of feels like they have changed the formula and it sucks because it was great before. It is very affordable though, retailing for $11.99 on their web site but would it be worth it when the palette is bad to begin with? I don’t really think so.

Have you tried Maybelline’s NUDES palettes before? What do you think of them?

♥ Lush Sweet Lips Scrub

20170118_124134

A good lip scrub is always necessary if you want to keep your lips soft and nice and get rid of dead skin. It doesn’t really make anything worse if it tastes like chocolate and vanilla either! My absolute go-to scrub is this one, Sweet Lips. I would probably love the other chocolate-y scrubs they have but they contain ingredients I’m allergic to so that’s a no-go for me! Sadly this is a Kitchen exclusive so I cannot get my hands on it very often, luckily a tub of it lasts forever. However, if you don’t want to spend like five quid on a scrub, making your own with sugar, oil and flavorings works too!

♥ Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Nourishing Lip Balm

20170118_124023

I kind of purchased this on a whim a while ago because i had a 40% off discount code, but i do not regret purchasing it at all as it is most likely the best lip balm I have ever tried. It comes in a handy tube (they have one that comes in a pot in the same formula too), so it’s easy to bring with me everywhere. It has a yellow-ish color to it but it goes on transparent. It also kind of smells like some sort of sour apple candy, which is kind of weird but it doesn’t bother me too much. It claims to show good results for eight hours after applying and i feel like it actually does! I usually apply a rather thick layer of this when i go to bed and wake up with soft lips. I also periodically apply it throughout the day if i need some extra care.

♥ Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid ‘Nude Flush’

20170118_124246

When it comes to liquid lipsticks, especially matte ones, Maybelline really surprised me! After reading horror stories about other mattes that completely dried out your lips and whatnot, i was not very keen on trying any. But then i got my hands on one of these and i instantly fell in love. It feels so smooth and nice on the lips and the finish on it is great. It stays on for a long time too, so if you want to try a creamy feeling matte liquid lipstick, give one of the vivid mattes a try! This shade in particular is called Nude Flush and it’s definitely a deep pink shade.

♥ MDMFLOW Creamy Matte Lipstick ‘Bossy’

20170118_124206

This one has kind of the same feel and formula as the liquid from Maybelline, but as you can see, it’s a solid, ‘normal’ lipstick. It is definitely more of a brown nude compared to the other one but it looks so nice on the lips! I have always loved a deep chocolate color on others but i never thought i could ever pull something like that off myself. I kind of wish it was a little bit darker but i love it the way it is now too!
